About this Event

The City-State: From Master Plan to Margins

Date: 3 August, 2024

Location: 8B2 Gallery

Come join us at The City-State: From Master Plan to Margins as we delve into what defines the contours and premise of a city with a shorter lifespan than most, and yet considered to be one of the earliest sites of human settlement in Asia. Islamabad is a city named with the purpose of homogenizing the identity, values, and aspirations of the residents and representation of Pakistan, through myriad historical and contemporary erasures that mark its presence in the Potohar. We consider the significance of not only documenting but also actively opposing these erasures; to strengthen acts of political, literary, and cultural memory, oral history, and resistance that intersperse the sterile master plan of modern-day Isloo.

The evening will feature a panel discussion, a fireside chat between writers, and a performance, all centered around the themes of historicization, development, displacement, and resistance in Islamabad. We will also be displaying and selling our exclusive merchandise. The event will additionally include products made and brought by comrades, so arrive early if you want to have a browse.
