About this Event
How did San Francisco go from the counterculture capital to the land of the tech bro? What did we lose when San Francisco stopped protecting this haven for thriving minority communities, artists, musicians and nonconformists? And what responsibility do gentrifying newcomers have to that history? Now that big tech is fully mask-off, is there anything we can do to save San Francisco?
For one night only – Join notorious SF hosts
- Housing advocate and democratic socialist
- SF-made subculture documentary filmmaker (@Mario0o0o0o0o0o)
- And ferociously candid culture writer (@realbayareamemes)
For a screening of The City of Sensitive Frauds, a debut documentary from Woodliff and Riveira:
In San Francisco, California – a city that sold its soul to software companies that got rich by selling solutions to problems that mostly didn’t even exist – two friends caught in the limbo between Whole Foods and homelessness unite to find out how the Bay Area went from a place that accepted everyone to a place that no one could afford. On their journey, Mario and Abe spoke to politicians, neighborhood legends, the unhoused, and police abolitionists to find answers.
The documentary will be followed by a lively panel with the directors and subjects of the film where the audience can join the discussion.
Plus, get to know organizations around the Bay Area who are working to return San Francisco to working class people and fight rampant gentrification. Time to get organized!
Doors at 6:30, Movie at 7 followed by panel discussion
