Formed in 1935 by D.P. "Dad" Carter, the Chuck Wagon Gang quickly rose to fame, performing on radio stations, recording for Columbia Records, and gracing legendary stages like Carnegie Hall, the Hollywood Bowl, and the Grand Ole Opry . Their music, a blend of raw emotion and simple yet powerful harmonies , has inspired fans for generations.
With classic hits like “I’ll Fly Away,” “Echoes from the Burning Bush,” and “Looking for a City,” the group remains one of the most beloved gospel quartets of all time. The current lineup, led by Shaye Smith (granddaughter of original member Anna Carter Gordon) , continues the tradition of pure voices and a single guitar accompaniment , keeping the unmistakable Chuck Wagon Gang sound alive.
