The tradition started in 1977 at the Old Mill Tavern (where the Corner Bar now is). It moved to the sweetwater in the mid-'80s.
The Christmas Jug Band are stalwart purveyors of the jug-a-billy mystique! A tongue-in-cheek seasonal convergence of San Francisco Bay Area musical luminaries - the CJB has assembled a cast of characters to bring you musical holiday wackiness. The band features players from Back pOrchEstra, "The Hot Licks" (Dan Hick's band), Marty Balin,Those Darn Accordions and New Orleans Nightcrawlers. Performing this year are Greg Dewey, Tim Eschliman, Paul Rogers, Snakebite Jacobs, Candy Girard, Paul Robinson, and Blake Richardson.
This show includes mostly CJB tunes, plus a good handful of Dan's humorous holiday tunes, some of his other classics, and a few Back pOrchEstra ditties.
New single coming by November 29:
Just on the heels of Thanksgiving the San Francisco Bay Area's Globe Records releases "Holiday From The Holiday," an almost-entirely-acoustic Alternative Holiday Single with the combined forces of the SF Bay Area's festive American Roots band, Back pOrchEstra, and "The kings of 100% acoustic folk-skiffle-swing holiday highjinks", The Christmas Jug Band.
Urgent escapism in full regalia in a timeless American Roots merging of '60s New Orleans Rock & roll and Cajun with neo-modern folk influences with a taste of Beat poetry.
