Who were the Central Park Five? In 1989, five black and Latino teenagers from Harlem were convicted of raping a white woman, Trisha Meili, while she was jogging in New York City’s Central Park. The convictions were based largely on confessions that the teens later recanted, saying they were forced. The Central Park Five served between six and 13 years before their convictions were vacated in 2002.
