Known for her distinctive voice and singing style, “[Valerie June’s] every quiver bespeaks emotional honesty” (New Yorker).She combines psychedelic folk, indie rock, country soul, symphonic pop, and blues with her southern roots and northern cosmopolitan charm to create her own sonic universe. Heavily influenced by one-of-a-kind vocalists like Billie Holiday, Karen Dalton, Macy Gray, and Tom Waits, June’s singular voice finds its home amongst these oddly rare vocal entities.As a Grammy-nominated multi-instrumentalist and Bob Dylan praised singer-songwriter, Valerie June has collaborated and shared the stage with myriad artists including John Prine, Norah Jones, Tyler Childers, Dinosaur Jr., Booker T. Jones, M. Chastity Brown
Gospel and blues, melodic sensibility, and honest emotion…Based in Minnesota, but with roots in Tennessee, Chastity Brown grew up surrounded by country and soul music. In the full gospel church of her childhood, she played saxophone and drums and found her singing voice and a passion for music. Her first show was in Knoxville, TN, and then it was on to Minneapolis. Since then, she’s been featured on NPR’s “Favorite Sessions,” CMT, American Songwriter, the London Times, Paste Magazine and others. Chastity has toured the U.S. and abroad, appearing on the U.K.’s Later…with Jools Holland.“A work of brooding soul eloquence, alt-rock wiriness, atmospheric pop sweetening and folk-infected naturalness.”– NPR Music
