Welcome LISA FREDENBURGH newly appointed director of the CBA Chorus!

We are delighted to welcome Lisa Fredenburgh as the newly appointed director of the CBA Chorus, only the third conductor in the history of the ensemble, following in the footsteps of founding director, Rebecca Patterson, who served from 2005 to 2016, and Stephen Blackwelder, who led the chorus from 2017 to 2025.

Conductor, Lisa Fredenburgh serves as Director of Choral Activities at Aurora University, a position she has held since 2010. In this role, she conducts multiple choral ensembles and instructs courses in conducting and related disciplines, fostering the development of emerging musicians. She is the founding director of the Fox Valley Orchestra Chorus and Fox Chamber Singers, and has established ensembles recognized for their artistry and commitment to creative choral repertoire.

With a strong interest in opera, Dr. Fredenburgh previously held the position of Chorus Master for North Carolina Opera and Capitol Opera Raleigh, where she prepared choruses and conducted operatic performances with precision and sensitivity. Her previous academic appointments include faculty roles at the University of Central Missouri and Meredith College, where she contributed to the advancement of music education and choral studies.

Fredenburgh holds a Doctor of Musical Arts (D.M.A.) and two Master of Music (M.M.) degrees from the University of Arizona, complemented by a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Music Education from Luther College. Her expertise as conductor and clinician has been sought internationally, with engagements in the Dominican Republic and Bolivia through the United States Information Service, as well as conducting High School All-State Choirs in New York, North Carolina, Arkansas, Tennessee, and Georgia. An active scholar, she regularly presents on choral techniques and global music traditions, contributing to the field through research and professional workshops.
