The Card Doctor's Story:
My name is Max Lewis, AKA The Card Doctor.
My journey into professional card restoration began in 2017 when I jumped back into the collecting hobby. Like many collectors, I was constantly buying cards online, only to have them arrive dirty, neglected, or damaged. Frustrated by the condition of these pieces, I set out on a mission in 2019 to learn how to clean them properly, wanting nothing but pristine, beautiful cards for my personal collection. But cleaning was just the first step. By the end of 2019, I realized that saving these cards required true repair and restoration.
That realization sparked a deeply meticulous, years-long journey of trial and error. I dedicated myself to mastering the delicate science of card grading elevation—learning exactly what it takes to take a card from Damaged to Heavily Played (HP), Moderately Played (MP) to Lightly Played (LP), or pushing an LP card into Near Mint (NM) and Mint territory.
Today, with over seven years of hands-on experience in the hobby, I specialize in what I call "the old way." My restoration process is slow, tedious, and incredibly precise. There are no shortcuts here. Depending on the card's structural damage, a single restoration can take anywhere from two weeks to four months of patient, expert care. But the results are always worth the wait. For me, this isn't just a business; it’s a passion. The trading card hobby is built on community, togetherness, and family.
My goal as The Card Doctor is not only to restore these pieces of history but to teach the community how to properly care for their own collections, ensuring the love for this hobby carries on for generations.
