The Camdentown Tennis Club Inauguration

Tennis Anyone?!

Houston White has a vision to create a vibrant tennis community in Camdentown, North Minneapolis. The Unites States Tennis Association Northern Section is enthusiastically partnering with Houston to help make this vision a reality. This effort begins on Saturday June 4, 2022 at Webber Park. We will be hosting an event to celebrate the inauguration of The Camdentown Tennis Club!

We are inviting adults age 18 and older to show up at The Get Down Coffee Shop between 9-10am for a cup of coffee and networking before walking over to the Webber Park tennis courts for the event. If you’ve never picked up a tennis racket in your life...FEAR NOT! We welcome all ability levels beginner to intermediate. Here’s what it will include:

9am - Gather at The Get Down Coffee Co.

10am - Walk as a group to the courts at Webber Park

10:30am - Brief introduction about the vision and why we are here today.

10:45am - Mixed doubles exhibition match featuring 4 of the best Black tennis players in the state of Minnesota.

11:30am - General question and answer session about the rules of the game, strokes etc. followed by a serving demonstration. Then rackets will be presented to all participants and everyone will be free to try their hand at some serves with instruction from USPTA certified instructors.

12:00pm - Walk back to the Get Down Coffee Co. as a group for a Quince Mpls Mkt burrito (included in ticket), more coffee and to sign up to be one of the first members of The Camdentown Tennis Club!

There will be a monthly tennis class presented by certified tennis instructors throughout the summer with dates TBD. Our hope is that this inaugural event will get you out on the courts in the weeks between events to begin learning and loving a game that can be enjoyed for a lifetime.

The cornerstone of Houston White’s vision to grow the game of tennis in Camdentown is “CULTURAL COLLISION” through music, art, fashion and human connection. He has already had tremendous success promoting this collision in the game of golf and he wants to do the same thing with tennis by introducing more Black players and athletes of all levels to the sport.
