The Bunny Wilburn Resource Fair in Honor of Black Child Care Providers!

BCDI-Seattle will be 50 years old in 2023, we are holding this Resource Fair as an early celebration of that milestone by honoring Black child care providers in the Seattle area. We will honor Black childcare providers with special name tags, gifts, and one of the rooms we will be using is designated as a Restoration space, which will include 15 minute massages, mindfulness exercises and art therapy. We will have boxed lunches for those who registered ahead of time and give out BCDI-Tote bags along with special gifts and door prizes.

Why is BCDI-Seattle holding a Resource Fair? In October/November of last year, BCDI-Seattle conducted our second survey of Black childcare providers and our first survey was conducted in 1992. From the 2021 survey, we found that many systemic issues remain unchanged and at the Resource Fair, we will discuss these findings. Also, since we found that a majority of Black providers serve primarily Black children who are on state aid, BCDI-Seattle's first action is to create a Resource Fair where Black childcare providers have access to resources they need to do well as a business and to do well in the business of serving Black children!

Who is Bunny Wilburn? This Resource Fair is named after our founder and past fearless leader, Bunny Wilburn. The organization, National Black Child Development Institute (NBCDI) was established in 1972 and Bunny established a local Seattle affiliate in 1973, now known as BCDI-Seattle. Bunny would ask people a question when she would see them in the community, which comes from the Masai people, "How are the children?" with the hopeful response of, "The children are well." This is a greeting that Bunny would ask, which acknowledges the high value placed on children's well-being, which means that peace and safety prevail and the priorities of protecting the young, the powerless, are in place!

Room I - Exclusively for 15 minute massages! In order to sign up for a massage, when you attend the Resource Fair, you have to sign up when you come that day.

Room II - Exclusively for Workshops and the events will occur throughout the day. Attendees can come and go as they please and there is a limit of 30 people allowed in this room at one time. The Program Agenda is below:
