About this Event
This workshop focuses on the impacts that neighbourhoods and community spaces of collective housing have on the everyday activities of older persons. First, Dr. Herrmann will present her research, which analyses how features of the built environment affect older persons’ walking in their neighbourhoods in Santiago de Chile and the everyday activities of the elderly in the community spaces of collective housing. Afterwards, there will be questions and answers and a general discussion on age-friendly city conditions, comparing contexts in the Global South and Global North.
Dr Marie Geraldine Herrmann Lunecke is an Associate Professor at the Urbanism Department of the Universidad de Chile and a researcher at the Centre for Sustainable Urban Development, CEDEUS. She has a PhD degree from the Technische Universität Berlin. With more than 15 years of academic experience, she is concerned with older adults’ challenges in cities. She has researched this topic and published numerous articles (Journal of Ageing & Social Policy, Travel Behaviour and Society, Transport Reviews, Sustainability, among others).
