For the second week of his month-long Thursday-night residency at The Hungry Brain, saxophonist Dave Rempis kicks things off with a first-time duo pairing with CSO cellist and longtime friend Katinka Kliejn.
For the second set, the working cross-generational quartet The Brunt celebrates the release of their debut recording Near Mint Minus [https://aerophonicrecords.bandcamp.com/album/near-mint-minus] earlier this year on Aerophonic Records. [http://aerophonicrecords.com] The band features veteran bassist Kent Kessler with longtime collaborator Rempis on saxophones, spurred on by two of the standout musicians of a newer generation of Chicago improvisers with Gerrit Hatcher on tenor saxophone and Bill Harris on drums.
