Based on Holocaust survivor Maxwell Smart’s memoir of the same name, THE BOY IN THE WOODS follows the true story of a Jewish boy, Max (Jett Klyne), escaping Nazi persecution in Eastern Europe. After being separated from his family, he finds shelter with a Christian peasant, Jasko (Richard Armitage), who hides him in plain sight until a stand-off with a local police authority.
Afraid for his family, Jasko sends Max to live in the woods where he learns to survive. His experiences are both terrifying and magical – and then he meets Yanek (David Kohlsmith), another Jewish boy hiding in the woods.
The boys’ adventure culminates in rescuing a baby girl, but it comes at a tragic price.
Recognizing the potential of film to reach large numbers and to educate and spark powerful discussions, the Claims Conference provides grants to films, such as THE BOY IN THE WOODS, as part of our ongoing support for Holocaust research, education and documentation.
