In this hands-on hand embroidery workshop, guests will explore the fusion of delicate threadwork with intricate beading and goldwork features hosted by Eliza Gomersall. The Botanist's Moth workshop centres on Eliza’s signature subject, a moth. Throughout the day, guests will learn various traditional hand embroidery techniques, from stitching fine details to incorporating beads and goldwork wire to add texture and elegance, working on a delicate silk organza, enhancing its couture quality and a sense of refined luxury.
Also included in this workshop is a delightful lunch served in the Garden Room and a glass of fizz to complete the day.
This one-day hand embroidery workshop, led by embroidery artist Eliza Gomersall, guides participants in creating an intricate botanical moth design inspired by both nature and fantasy, reflecting the artist’s distinctive style.
The design features delicate botanical motifs woven into the moth’s wings, combining floral elements with the elegant structure of the insect form. Using fine materials and carefully selected colour palettes, traditional embroidery techniques are explored and applied in contemporary ways, resulting in a piece with a couture-inspired feel that is both timeless and modern.
While some basic embroidery experience is beneficial, all techniques are demonstrated and supported throughout the day. To encourage creativity and personal expression, a range of colourways is available so each design can be uniquely customised.
All materials are included in the workshop kit, along with reference resources such as a stitch plan and key to support your work both during the session and at home. Demonstrations may be photographed or filmed for personal reference. As this is a one-day workshop, the design will be pre-transferred onto the fabric and prepared in an embroidery hoop, allowing participants to begin stitching immediately and make the most of the time available.
