Bonsai is far more than small trees in pots — it is a living art form shaped by patience, vision, and time. The Art of Bonsai explores the history, aesthetics, and cultural significance of bonsai while offering an intimate look at how these living sculptures are created and cared for. Through real specimens, stories, and visuals, audiences gain a deeper appreciation for bonsai as both horticulture and fine art. This 1-hour presentation is educational, inspiring, and accessible to beginners and enthusiasts alike. There will be a half hour question and answer session at the end of the program and bonsai display and items for show and tell.
A litlle bit about our presenter.
My name is Joe Chirco, and I’m deeply passionate about bonsai.
I’m the former President of the West Michigan Bonsai Club and currently serve on
the board of the American Bonsai Society. In 2024, I chaired the American Bonsai
Society’s Michigan convention at Frederik Meijer Gardens, which welcomed over
7,000 guests.
My wife, Tina, and I have had our bonsai accepted into the National Bonsai
Exhibition in New York, and our trees have received multiple awards in Chicago
and at Frederik Meijer Gardens, including Best of Show.
This program is generously sponsored by the Friends of the Tamarack District Library.
