“Soul-soaked testimonial with the kind of fire you can’t fake. The the band leans hard into the roots that built them, with raucous guitar lines, gut-punch brass hits, and a lead singer who can bring down the walls with one note. Langer’s voice is dynamite on a fuse, while Jacobs' playing remains a masterclass in controlled chaos.” - New Releases Now
“There is funk and there is FONK, and this release is loaded with the latter, not to mention soul, blues and groove.” - Music News

The Boneshakers are a Billboard Top 10 funk blues band led by world-class Detroit guitarist Randy Jacobs — co-writer of the worldwide Was (Not Was) hit "Walk the Dinosaur" and a sideman to Bonnie Raitt, BB King, and Stevie Wonder — and fronted by powerhouse vocalist Jenny Langer. Their 2025 Gulf Coast Records release Live To Be This and 2022 independent release One Foot in The Groove both topped radio charts in the US, UK, France, and Germany and earned international critical acclaim. “Poised between Detroit soul, golden-era Muscle Shoals and Dobro porch blues.” - Classic Rock Magazine “An absolute must for every lover of soulful blues and rock.” - Blues Magazine
The Boneshakers are one of the hardest-working, most decorated bands in American roots music. Led by world-class Detroit guitarist Randy Jacobs and fronted by the explosive Jenny Langer, the band fuses Detroit funk, Memphis soul, and Muscle Shoals R&B into a live show that leaves no one sitting down.
Their 2025 Gulf Coast Records release Live To Be This debuted at #9 on the Billboard Top Blues Albums chart, topped radio charts in the US, UK, France, and Germany, and was named one of the Top 20 Blues Albums of 2025 (Blues Rock Review and Blues In Britain Magazine). The record features a staggering roster of guests — Bobby Rush, Charlie Musselwhite, Coco Montoya, Don Was, and Jimmy Carpenter — and was produced by longtime collaborator John Wooler. Blues Magazine called it "An absolute must for every lover of soulful blues and rock."
The story begins in Detroit in 1980, when Randy Jacobs met soul legend Sweetpea Atkinson during a session for brothers Don and David Was. Their chemistry powered Was (Not Was) through the 1980s and into the early '90s — co-writing the worldwide smash "Walk the Dinosaur" and touring European arenas with Dire Straits — before Randy went on to record with Bonnie Raitt, BB King, Seal, Bob Dylan, Elton John, Bootsy Collins, Stevie Wonder, Iggy Pop, and Tears For Fears. It was Bonnie Raitt herself who christened the band "The Boneshakers."
Signed to Pointblank / Virgin Records in 1996, the band released two acclaimed albums and built a loyal international following. In 2015, a celebrated chapter began with Grammy nominated sax star Mindi Abair, releasing four albums on Concord Records and touring the world. That era earned the band 8 Independent Blues Awards including Artist of the Year, an Independent Music Award for Best Blues Song (featuring Joe Bonamassa), and a Los Angeles Critics Award for Best Holiday Album.
In 2022, powerhouse vocalist Jenny Langer — Virginia Blues Hall of Fame inductee at age 28 and 2020 International Blues Challenge winner for Best Self-Produced Album — joined the band. Their 2023 album One Foot In The Groove shot to #1 on both the UK Blues Charts and US Soul Blues Charts, winning them two Wammie Awards. The band opened 2026 with nominations for International Band of the Year at the UK Blues Music Awards and Best AC Single at the International Acoustic Music Awards. Thirty years in, The Boneshakers are one of the most electrifying live acts in roots music.
