Our Fall Issue Release Party will be on October 9th at Loco Boys Brewing from 6pm to 8pm, in conjunction with the Michigan Outdoor Summit’s opening night. The event will feature live music from the patio (weather permitting), delicious food and drink, and of course the live readings from our wonderful contributors.For the second year, we are collaborating on the Fall Issue with The Michigan Outdoor Summit. Like last year’s issue, we’ll be highlighting two essays by outdoor professionals who will be presenting at The Summit. This year we have Garrett Dempsey, lead Sierra Club staff at Detroit Outdoors, who was inspired by a life-changing trip bringing eight Detroit youth to visit Yosemite. We also have author Jeannette Stawski, who currently serves as the executive director of the Association of Outdoor Recreation and Education, who wrote a piece drawing parallels from the experience and vantage point of swimming across the Straits of Mackinac to challenging times in her life. They’ll both be at our release event reading excerpts from their stories, and available to chat with before and after.
In addition to these two outdoor-themed stories, and Sue Kurta’s essay, we’ll also be featuring stories by head brewer and co-owner of Loco Boys Brewing Andy Largent, former military lawyer turned community advocate Josh Treager, and musician and music producer Annette Summersett, who will also be playing a set of original music at our release event.
Last year’s event at Loco Boys was incredible. We had an amazing crowd consisting of loyal and local followers, and statewide outdoor enthusiasts visiting for The Summit. It proved to be a beautiful mash-up of like-minded, community-oriented folks who all care deeply about our region. We hope this year’s event will be just as satisfying.
Some things to keep in mind for the event, if you plan to attend.
- We hope to have a portion of the event outside, so please dress accordingly.
- If the weather is just too rough, even for our hard-nosed crowd, we may have to implement a capacity limit at the door.
- We do expect a decent-sized crowd, so be prepared and respectful to all the amazing Loco Boys staff who will be working super hard to get you tasty food and beverages.
- If you are interested in ordering food or drink, you can order at the bar, or from a QR code at your table. Your order will be delivered to the table number where you initiated the QR code.
- The kitchen will be open before and after our event, but we suggest if you want to sit and eat a full meal, to get there a little earlier.
