We're back at The Tuppenny for another night of red-hot 1950s and 1960s Rhythm & Blues, spun exclusively from original vinyl 45s. And this one's shaping up to be something special.
Joining us are Clive & Jane Montellier, the driving force behind Cheltenham's legendary "Smokin' at Smokey Joe's" Juke Joint. You'll also know them from appearances at "Jewels in the Crown" events across the South, and more recently at the acclaimed "Jester Wild" weekender in Leipzig. Clive is also the one of the voices behind Rockin' Rhythm & Blues Radio, where he's known as the "King of the Rocket Men". Decades of record collecting, deep musical knowledge, and impeccable taste make them two of the most respected names on the scene.
Also on the bill is Nick Wells, making the trip up from Swanage. A former record shop owner and founder of the long-running "Enjoy Yourself" Club, Nick has built a reputation as one of the most discerning DJs around, spinning at events across the UK and beyond. Between appearances and the occasional European escape (which he's quite partial to), we're delighted to have secured him for what promises to be a memorable night.
Holding it all together is Blue & Black resident Lee Armitage, whose passion for Rhythm & Blues, Soul, Popcorn, Beat and other dancefloor-bound sounds has helped make these nights a fixture on the local scene. Known for serving up carefully curated selections that balance the classics with lesser-known gems, Lee will be joining the guest DJs behind the decks throughout the evening, keeping the floor moving from start to finish.
Expect a soundtrack packed with killer Rhythm & Blues, rare gems, dancefloor favourites and the unmistakable sound of authentic vinyl. No repros, no playlists, no algorithms, just great 45 records, played properly.
