About this Event
Join us for an interactive scholarship workshop where we will assist 10th-12th grade high school students in preparing for college. This is a free event open to students in Summit, Stark, and Portage Counties. Please note that space is limited. The workshop will take place from 11 AM to 3 PM, and breakfast and lunch will be provided.
We ask that parents stay for the first 50 minutes, as we will have a financial aid advisor reviewing FAFSA. Our day will consist of learning about career options, scholarship essay writing, and an opportunity to ask questions about the college experience. The workshop will feature speaker Dr. Liz Piatt, Interim Dean of University College at Kent State University, who brings over 30 years of higher education experience and expertise in supporting student success. Dr. Piatt's research on educational equity and student success makes her uniquely qualified to guide participants through the college preparation process.
Please bring your laptops if you have one; other writing materials will be provided if needed. This event is hosted by the members of the Akron graduate chapters of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc., and Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc.
