Purpose Driven Artistry
A newly formed ensemble, The Black Rosies, takes center stage in a performance that promises a unique blend of talent and purpose. Admission is free, courtesy of the Local 4 Music Fund, with support from a Music Performance Trust Fund grant. Theresa May and Shanyse Strickland, two accomplished musicians and educators, join forces to unveil their latest and most exciting project yet: The Black Rosies. This collaboration is a testament to the strength that purpose-driven artistry can bring. The Black Rosies is more than a musical ensemble; it's a project born from a shared sense of purpose and reason. Merging their talents and experiences, May and Strickland have crafted a repertoire that transcends genres, offering original music influenced by multiple genres. 🎶 Meet The Black Rosies! 🎶
Theresa J. May hails from Cleveland, Ohio, where she pursued her passion for music. With a Master of Music from the University of Cincinnati and a Bachelor of Music from the University of Dayton, Theresa's journey in music education and performance led her to co-found the Chromatic Brass Collective. She's an advocate for racial and gender equality in the music industry, showcasing her commitment through her performances with the Cleveland Jazz Orchestra and the Broadway Sinfonietta.
Shanyse Strickland, a native of Akron, Ohio, has carved her path in the world of music as a multi-instrumentalist, vocalist, composer, and arranger. Her academic pursuits include a Master of Music from Duquesne University, where she honed her skills and won the 2016 Horn Symposium's jazz competition. Shanyse's versatility shines through her compositions, with premieres at festivals like Music by Women and award-winning music videos that amplify her creative vision.
Jennifer James resides in Akron, Ohio, where she's currently pursuing her graduate studies at the University of Akron. Her musical journey is enriched by performances with local acts like Brain and the Glasses, showcasing her influences from West coast jazz and indie rock. As a pianist, Jennifer adds depth and harmony to every performance, creating immersive musical experiences for her audiences.
Crystal Burks, a proud musician from Cleveland, Ohio, brings over two decades of experience to the stage. A magna cum laude graduate of Cleveland State University, Crystal's percussion skills have graced prestigious venues across the country, from Severance Hall to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Her passion for music extends beyond performance, as she shares her expertise through teaching and mentoring aspiring musicians.
Lacretia "T.T." Bolden's musical journey began in Cleveland, Ohio, where her early years were marked by a profound passion for music. Starting with drumming in church, Lacretia's talent blossomed, leading her to explore various genres and instruments. Her dynamic blend of Hip Hop, R&B, Jazz, and Gospel reflects her diverse musical influences, captivating audiences worldwide with her electrifying performances.
