The Black Poster Project is a powerful traveling memorial exhibit designed to raise awareness about addiction overdose suicide and mental health struggles. It features hundreds of life-sized posters each honoring an individual who lost their life due to these challenges. Every poster tells a personal story creating a deeply emotional and reflective experience for attendees.
The exhibit is often referred to as a "Silent Memorial" inviting visitors to walk through at their own pace read the stories and connect with the faces and lives represented. It aims to:
- Humanize the statistics of addiction and mental health loss.
- Break the stigma surrounding substance use and mental illness.
- Encourage healing and advocacy through remembrance and storytelling.
- Provide resources for recovery and support from those living in sobriety.
Originally founded in New Jersey the project has expanded to include events in other states including North Carolina where it is part of broader community initiatives like the Anne Doolen Visionary Awards Gala and the Hope Room—a space for reflection creativity and connection.
