Join us for this short lunchtime talk that investigates the emergence of picture houses/cinemas across Britain from the early 1900s.Were cinemas born from music halls and travelling fairs, or did they grow from changes in the existing landscape of public entertainment?
Independent cinema historian and author Dr Andrew Shail takes us on a virtual tour of archives from Malvern to Hartlepool, before arriving back in Tyne & Wear and attempting to answer the question ‘Where do cinemas come from?’
