About this Event
In this presentation Bill will outline the history and discoveries made the the biggest telescope in the World that existed from the 1840's until just before World War One. Perhaps, surprisingly, this instrument wasn't at a national or university observatory, but at a noble man's country estate in rural central Ireland.
Bill Barton took early retiremant from his position as a signal engineer with Networkrail in 2014, and since than has devoted himself to researching astronomical history. He is currently:- Deputy Director of the Historical Section of the British Astronomical Association, The Society for the History of Astronomy's County Coodinator for Suffolk, and a Trustee of the Orwell Astronomical Society (Ipswich).
