About this Event
The Bible Women's Project at Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church, in the Jamaica Plain neighborhood of Boston is a preview performance of this theatrical experience officially registered as part of the 2025 International Edinburgh Fringe Festival in Scotland!
Because it is so hard to describe, we asked audience members to try. Here is what they said: "This play is not what you grew up with in church." "This was beyond what I expected." "If you were raised in the church, you will appreciate everything this play says." "If you are not a church person or even a God person, this play is still for you." "It was transformative. Truly." "As a man, I was thankful I saw it." "Everytime I see it, it gets more timely." "In a time when people are looking for God and community, I found both when watching this play."
The play is a digging into the stories of women in the Bible and looking at how the church has influenced their teachings and, as a result, how those teaching have impacted women today. It uses song, dance, storytelling, monologues, comedy, spoken word and more. There is something for everyone. In a time where women’s voices are being muted around the world, we are presenting stories from the mouths of women throughout time, space, and culture. Each performance is followed by an audience conversation with the actors and creator, Tara Brooke Watkins.
Performance is preceded by a hospitality hour beginning at 6:00pm. All are invited.
Free onstreet parking on Walk Hill Ave. and parking lot up the hill from the church on Wachusett St. T Accessible via Orange Line, Forest Hills stop. 10 minute walk.
