Many people want to die at home, yet in New Zealand most die in institutions like hospitals and nursing homes. The Better Endings Project is about educating the community on the basics of caring for people who are dying
Who is the course for?
For the general public who find themselves supporting and caring for people approaching end of life or those anticipating this situation.
What does Nelson Tasman Hospice offer?
The facilitators will give practical tips on how you can provide comfort to someone who is dying, and what you can do to plan for your own and your family's future. It is an interactive course for up to 20 participants.
Participants will learn:
- What to expect when someone is dying
- How compassionate communities can improve care of dying
- Why end of life planning is important and what resources are available
- Simple measures to provide comfort at end of life
- About the sanctity of the last hours/days of life and how to cope and support others after death
This course is free however places are limited so registrations are compulsory.
