GTI is pleased to invite you to a public policy seminar titled “The Benefits and Challenges of Economic Engagement: Major Issues in the US.”
About this Event

The Global Taiwan Institute (GTI) is pleased to invite you to a public policy seminar titled “Taiwan’s Connections to Regional and Global Security.”
2025 and 2026 have seen significant disruptions in the trade relationships between the United States and other countries — including uncertainties raised by tariffs, and disruptions to maritime trade resulting from armed conflict in the Middle East. Amidst this, Taiwan has emerged as a key US trade partner, particularly in terms of its central role in the global semiconductor and AI supply chain.
Furthermore, the first months of 2026 have also seen many significant developments that have strengthened US-Taiwan trade relations, including: the signing of the bilateral Agreement on Reciprocal Trade (ART) to reduce trade barriers; pledges for up to $250 billion in investments by Taiwanese companies to be made in the US; Taiwan becoming the US’s fourth largest trading partner.
On June 17th, GTI will host a half-day forum to discuss these and other key issues in the US-Taiwan trade relationship. The event will include three parts: first, a panel with experts discussing the most current developments in US-Taiwan bilateral economic relations; next, a discussion with former officials of the Office of the US Trade Representative (USTR) and Department of Commerce, who will offer their perspectives on both the challenges and key areas of cooperation in the areas of US-Taiwan trade and investments; and, finally, a panel discussion on matters related to Taiwan’s own economic security and social resilience.
RSVP is only required for in-person attendance. The event will also be livestreamed on GTI’s Youtube channel for virtual participants.
If you have any questions, please contact Abby Fu, Senior Programs Manager, at [email protected].
Doors will open at 9:00 AM, and the event will begin at 9:30 AM. If you plan on attending in-person, please RSVP by June 2, as seating is limited. A light breakfast will be provided.
Please direct questions or concerns to Senior Programs Manager Abby Fu at [email protected].
