A talk by Las Fallon on the Irish state assistance and how the Irish Fire Brigade responded to the Belfast Blitz of 1941
About this Event

'The Belfast blitz of 1941' looks at the southern fire service response to the bombing of Belfast by the Luftwaffe in April and May 1941. This was the first time the northern government had asked the Irish state for assistance and it was given freely with fire engines from Dublin, Dún Laoghaire, Dundalk and Drogheda being sent north.


Las Fallon a fire service historian and writer, a retired Dublin Fire Brigade firefighter and the author of a number of books on Dublin Fire Brigade history and local hisory including 'The Great Liberties Whiskey Fire'. In the past months Las Fallon given this talk in PRONI in Belfast on 16 April and in the Mansion house in Dublin on 5 May to mark the anniversaries of the two raids where firefighters crossed the border to assist their northern colleagues.


The location for this talk is the Lecture Room in the central courtyard of the Royal Hospital Kilmainham. It is found on the left hand side of the western arch entrance to the courtyard and has a ramp in front of the door. Doors will open at 2:50pm.
