The Begining & The End - Gregory Dirr
About this Event
This experimental series of paintings and sculptures borrows from Romantic-era storytelling traditions, often-depicted fairytales, folklore, mythology, and nature. Through the use of dramatic lighting and dark palettes, the works depict whimsical characters while emphasizing atmosphere and scenery. The dramatic energy found in the introduction and conclusion of The Big Book is deeply inspired by the intensity and emotional characteristic of Romanticism. The collection of works speaks through archetype reversal and the act of ‘flipping the script’ on darker themes rooted in traditional folklore. Many master works are recontextualized into Gregory’s own telling using his story and original characters to reshape familiar themes into something entirely his own.
