In recent times, human skin has become an ever increasing canvas for art with the huge growth in popularity of tattoos. While this can undoubtedly be characterized in many ways, it is certainly one way of loving "the skin we're in."
At First Congregational Church, with the help of poet and philosopher John O'Donahue, we've been considering beauty from every possible angle as part of our weekly worship for a couple of years now. On Sunday, July 19 at 2:30 PM (hopefully) outdoors at the church at 79 Clinton St. Jazz Sanctuary will be celebrating "The Beauty of Skin," with readings, prayers, conversation, and, of course, music.
Considering the ways skin is essential to soothing, healing, comforting, and - well - loving has led us to songs like "You've Got a Friend," "Lean on Me," and "I Wish I Knew How It Would Feel to Be Free." And in on Conversational Time, there will be space to share ways that you've been literally "touched" in your own life and the life of others around you.
We all show our skin a bit more (finally) in a New England summer, so come join us as we celebrate the beauty of that skin.
