Fresh from the Fringe, Stepping Out’s **** production ‘The Beast Will Rise’ is coming to The Pen Theatre this October.
The world stage premiere of this new work is penned by visionary writer Philip Ridley (The Pitchfork Disney, The Reflecting Skin, Mercury Fur), and performed by Lily Maryon.
Maryon previously appeared at The Pen debuting her comedy character ‘Princess Sparkles’, but this piece is something very different…
Four stories that are by turns dark, tender, shocking and dazzling, linked and reflecting each other like shards of a broken mirror. Haunting glimpses of a world that seethes and glitters with strangeness and menace, and where nothing is quite what it seems.... It's all brilliantly bizarre!
Maryon's transitions between monologues and characters are brilliantly smooth, immediately transporting us into a new world with a simple change of outfit, body language or accent. She manages to convey the humanity in each character, regardless of the extremity or strangeness of the context which births them.
