Join the World Affairs Council and the University of North Florida for an inspiring and informative Global Issues Evening featuring Maria Ressa, CEO of Rappler, Journalist, Author, Freedom Advocate and 2021 Nobel Peace Prize recipient. As co-founder, CEO and executive editor of Rappler.com, the top digital-only news site in the Philippines, she has fought for press freedom and the freedom of speech at home and abroad.
For her courage and work on disinformation and “fake news,” Ressa was named Time Magazine 2018 Person of the Year, was among its 100 Most Influential People of 2019, and was named one of Times Most Influential Women of the Century. In 2021, she was one of two journalists awarded the Nobel Peace Prize.
Her third book, How to Stand Up to a Dictator, will be published this Fall.
Global Issues Evenings are hosted in partnership with the University of North Florida’s Distinguished Voices Lecture Series.
