The Bastrop BOLD Initiative is a non-partisan, grassroots coalition of Bastropians demanding the legal authority to decide if, when, and where hyper-scale data center campuses can be built in our backyards.

On August 24, 2026, at a Bastrop County Commissioners' Court meeting in the City of Bastrop, Texas, Cedar Creek resident, author, and disabled activist Jenai Marek proposed a draft letter to the Texas Legislature regarding mega data center campuses. Her proposal: petition the Texas Legislature to grant the Commissioners' Court the land-use authority already granted to other counties, such as Hood County, specifically pertaining to mega-industrial development projects (like passed-the-meter data centers) slated to be built in our rural and unincorporated communities.

This is the Bastrop BOLD Initiative.

Originally, the proposal was for the citizens of Bastrop County to invite the Commissioners' Court members to join us in a petition to help stop data centers in this county. However, in light of recent breaking news—specifically the David Glass Data Center Scandal—the Bastrop BOLD Initiative will pause its partnership with the County Commissioners and continue as a countywide grassroots movement.

Jenai Marek will again address the Commissioners' Court at their next meeting to postpone the vote until after the November election.

We still intend to submit the Bastrop BOLD Initiative to the Texas Legislature in December 2026 for deliberation during the January 2027 Legislative Session, with or without the endorsement of our elected representatives. Details of this decision will be shared in this Event Page's "Discussion" Tab.

The Bastrop BOLD Initiative presents a clear, narrow demand: Bastrop County, with a unified voice, requests that our Austin lawmakers amend Chapter 231 of the Texas Local Government Code, granting rural counties the legal authority to decide if, when, and where hyper-scale data center campuses can be developed in farming communities.

If you agree that rural Texans should have a say in the industrialization of our homes, please sign the Bastrop BOLD Initiative petition. We will post updates with all the dates, times, locations, and county events where we'll be collecting signatures. By "attending" this Facebook event, you will get all updates on where you have an opportunity to sign. December 4 is the final deadline to sign before we take it to the state legislature!
