Program Description:
This course focuses on timber frames. Students will learn about material science of wood, what makes a timber frame appealing, and why timber frames are more environmentally friendly, sustainable, and energy-efficient than traditional stick frame structures. Students will lay out, cut, and assemble traditional joinery and, at the same time, we will explore more modern methods of assembly, such as using structural screws. Students will also raise the structure at the end of the week while learning the best practices of raising and rigging. Students will learn square rule timber framing and intermediate framing square use.

Learn the basics of timer frame construction
Cut and assembly traditional and modern joinery
Learn about different materials
Learn the basics of biophilia
Learn about joinery best practices with evidence from research done by the Timber Frame Engineering Council
Build and raise a timber frame
Learn square rule timber framing and intermediate framing square use
Attendance Requirements: Students must attend all days
