THE BARD'S NOT THAT HARDDelivered by theatre professionals, with regular visits from our main-house production’s creatives and actors, GSC’s practical evening classes are designed to help you discover The Bard in a fun and supportive environment. We explore Shakespeare’s great plays through close reading, group discussion and practical exercises in our professional rehearsal room. Each term culminates in a celebration of the term’s discoveries.
This summer term we'll be exploring AS YOU LIKE IT, Shakespeare's evergreen comedy, with one of the most well-known speeches in literature: "All the world's a stage..." To escape the tyrannous Duke Frederick’s reign, Rosalind (one of the most exciting female roles in Shakespeare) escapes with her cousin and a cheeky jester into the Forest of Arden, a playground of hopes and dreams. Away from the stifling court, this merry trio discover that the outdoors have more to offer than just refuge, and where freedom of thought liberates, so too can romance flourish for each and every one.
As You Like it a celebration of human nature’s desire to forgive and forget, to love and to laugh.
No experience of Shakespeare or acting necessary and all ages welcome. This is not an acting class but there will be tea and biscuits! Just bring yourself and a desire to learn.
