Banbury depot is a key depot facility for Chiltern Railways, that underwent a £9.4m upgrade in early 2023 to support increased train maintenance. This upgrade included four new sidings and 950m of new track. It serves as a vital location for fleet maintenance, stabling and cleaning and supports the introduction of new Mark 5 trains for the London-West Midlands route. It has also been developed to provide new, improved accommodation for the teams based there.
Leaving Banbury Station just after 11:00 (allowing connections from both the Manchester and Southampton trains), we will head into Banbury Depot on either a Class 165 or Class 168 (to be confirmed on the day based on operational requirements), and intend to cover all available roads on the depot. We will then return you back to Banbury station around 13:00.
We are raising money for a Chiltern Railways team to undertake the Three Peaks by Rail Challenge and all profits will be donated to Railway Children.
A souvenir track map will be provided.
All times and routing are indicative until confirmed by Network Rail. Final routing and timings are usually confirmed by Network Rail five days before travel and will be enclosed with your e-ticket.
