About this Event
With an introduction from Graham Galbraith, Vice-Chancellor.
The Prime Minister, Sir Keir Starmer, and Chancellor of the Exchequer, Rachel Reeves, have both signalled that the UK faces difficult policy decisions in order to achieve long term growth and prosperity, especially in light of recent global instabilities. The government will outline their evolving economic strategy and spending plans in detail during their Autumn budget.
To get a better idea of where we are headed with this historic event, please join us for a public lecture to be delivered by Professor Stephen Millard, Director of the National Institute of Economic and Social Research (NIESR).
Professor Millard will present NIESR’s latest view on the economic outlook for the United Kingdom. He will share an expert analysis of the options available for Chancellor Rachel Reeves in the Autumn budget, as well as the likely impact of these choices on the UK economy. The content of the budget is of particular interest this year given the need to fill a gap in the public finances while staying within the government's own fiscal rules and maintaining their manifesto pledge. Don't miss this opportunity for expert insight and analysis of a budget that is likely to have a major impact on our everyday lives.
Accessibility and special requirements: We will endeavour to provide particular access requirements on request. If you have any access requirements, e.g. wheelchair access, hearing loops or specific neurodiverse requirements, please get in touch in advance of the event.
