About this Event
The Living Room: Improvised Space and Material Reuse
This presentation will explore my evolving design practice through furniture, material
experimentation, and installations developed through my studio untildef. A central focus of the presentation will be The Living Room, an ongoing installation and gathering space built from found and discarded materials that reimagines the living room as a temporary public
environment for conversation, listening, rest, and community. Using reclaimed materials, improvised furniture, and material experiments, the project explores how spaces of comfort and gathering can be constructed outside traditional systems of design and ownership. Through chairs, prototypes, process documentation, and physical samples, I will discuss themes of reuse, improvisation, displacement, public space, accessibility, and collective participation within contemporary design practice. The presentation will also touch on how skateboarding, fabrication culture, and materials science influence my approach to making, where materials are treated less as fixed commodities and more as collaborators that carry history, wear, and possibility. The format will exist somewhere between a presentation, installation, and open conversation, with physical objects integrated into the space for interaction and discussion.
The AAACC Enterprising Creatives’ Artist Talks offer a unique opportunity to hear directly from emerging artists who are building sustainable creative practices. These Artist Talks are a chance for the public to connect with the residents, hear their stories, and witness the incredible talent emerging from the program. This FREE public event will feature presentations from our four talented AAACC Artists in Residence. Hear from our resident artists as they take the stage to share their artistic journey, creative processes, inspirations and the stories behind their current work.
From painting to sculpture to digital media and woodcraft, the cohorts represent a diverse of practices and perspectives. Whether you’re a collector, curator, fellow artist, or simply love art, you are warmly welcome.
