The Art of Wagashi – Autumn Traditions & 'Choyo' Festival
About this Event
September Workshop: The Art of Wagashi 〜Autumn Traditions & "Choyo" Festival〜
Create edible art! Come empty-handed and experience the joy of Japanese sweets making.
"Nerikiri" is a traditional, premium Japanese confection that originally blossomed as a special treat for the Japanese tea ceremony. Made by kneading sweet butter bean paste with a touch of mochi, it captures the fleeting beauty of the seasons in the palm of your hand.
In this workshop at the Japanese Culture Center, we will craft two beautiful Nerikiri designs inspired by chrysanthemums, the iconic flower of autumn.
- Designs: "Kisewata" (Chrysanthemum covered in cotton) & "Korin-giku" (Stylized Korin Chrysanthemum)
- Why you'll love it: September 9th is the "Choyo Festival" (Chrysanthemum Festival). We'll share some fun, lighthearted stories about Japanese culture—like the lovely custom of "Kisewata" to wish for health and longevity, and the stylish "Korin-giku" design inspired by a famous Edo-period artist.
Perfect for absolute beginners! All tools and ingredients are provided, so just bring your curiosity and excitement!
