About this Event
Janet Haigh, international textile artist and tutor, will guide you through the art of visible mending while teaching you the various techniques to transform your garments into wearable pieces of art.
Visible Mending highlights and celebrates the repair process. It is a sustainable way to increase the longevity of the clothes you love and own in a fun and mindful way.
In this session we will cover patching, various types of darning, as well as a variety of creative embroidery stitches.
You are welcome to bring any clothes that need mending, but Janet will have lots of fabrics on which to try out the techniques and you will be able to create decorative patches that can be stitched onto any garment later.
Whether you're a seasoned crafter or new to the world of mending, this event is suitable for all skill levels. Explore the artistry of visible mending, connect with like-minded individuals, and leave with the knowledge and inspiration to give your clothes a new lease on life.
All attendees will have free entry to view an exhibition of Kaffe Fassett's Quilts which are on loan from his private collection, alongside "The Tree of Life Quilt" by Julie Harvey & Ilaria Padovani, which was commissioned by the University of Bristol.
All the materials are provided. Please bring a hand sewing kit and any garments that you would like to experiment on.
Tea, coffee and pastries are included with this workshop.
If a workshop is cancelled for any reason by the organisers, the participants will receive a refund minus the Eventbrite fees.
