The Art of the Altar

Many of us are beginning to taste the longing for the presence of the sacred in our lives but don’t quite know where to begin, especially if there is not a particular religion or spiritual lineage that we feel connected to.

Altars hold an essential place in a spiritual life. In this workshop, we’ll explore the basics of creating an altar. Where does it go in my home? What do I put on my altar? How do I make it beautiful? How do I interact with it? There is an abundance of tradition and lineage around altar building. This will be a syncretic approach, inviting us to move creatively and intuitively, inspired by this wide array of influences, and making choices from our inner sensing and knowing.

We will bring some basic components and each make our own altar, spend some time engaging with it, and then step back and view them all together, feeling how they join to create a potent sacred space. We will end with an emergent ritual that acknowledges the portal we have created with our collective doorways to the Sacred.
