The Art of Pointilism

Inspired by one of art history's most innovative painting techniques, discover how thousands of tiny dots of color can come together to create a luminous work of art.
Pointillism is a painting technique where thousands of tiny, distinct dots of pure color are applied to create an image. Rather than physically mixing pigments on a palette, artists rely on optical mixing—allowing the viewer's eye to blend the colors together from a distance to create richer, more luminous colors.
In this beginner-friendly workshop, you'll begin with a brief introduction to the history of Pointillism and color theory before creating your own 9" × 11" watercolor landscape using cotton swabs to apply paint. You'll be guided every step of the way as you choose from a selection of landscape reference photos and watercolor palettes and explore this relaxing, approachable painting technique.
No painting experience is necessary, and all materials are provided.
