The Art of Phulkari Embroidery
About this Event
In this workshop, participants will explore the history and cultural significance of Phulkari embroidery through the artist's research and practice.
Each participant will receive a pre-drawn motif on khaddar fabric, sourced from artisans in Pakistan who practise Phulkari embroidery as their livelihood. A variety of thread colours will be available, allowing participants to create a colour palette of their own.
We will begin with an introduction to the stories and traditions behind Phulkari, followed by a closer look at embroidered pieces from the artist's own collection. Participants will then learn the traditional darning stitch and work on their own embroidery with guidance throughout the session.
All materials are provided by the artist. Each participant can take their embroidered hoop home, along with additional threads to continue their work if they haven't finished during the workshop.
No prior embroidery experience is required. Reading glasses are recommended for close-up embroidery.
A $10 cafe drink voucher is included in the ticket price.
