UTC-05:00Location
Tokyo Electron | Austin, TX
Step into the world of ancient Japan over 1000 years ago and experience the beauty and grace of the Jūnihitoe - one of Japan's most iconic and elaborate kimono styles!
"Junihitoe" means 12 layers in Japanese. This majestic kimono, sometimes with more than 12 layers, weighs 15 to 20 Kg (33 to 44 LB) . Its substantial weight allows it to stand on its own, a phenomenon known as 'Monuke no kara' (meaning 'Empty Shell').
Event Highlights:
- Live Demonstration: Watch the Jūnihitoe being put on, layer by layer, revealing its complex elegance. Witness the "empty shell" phenomenon and experience an exclusive engagement opportunity where you will have the chance* to touch, feel, and truly connect with the Jūnihitoe.
*Due to time constraints not all participants may be able to experience it.
- Cultural Insight: Discover the rules and traditions behind the garment and explore the fascinating culture of the Heian Period.
- Fashion Connection: See how the Jūnihitoe has shaped modern Japanese fashion and kimono culture.
- Tea Experience: Sip on authentic Japanese green tea while enjoying the stunning Jūnihitoe!
