About this Event

Day of the Dead Cultural Festival 2026

The Embassy of Mexico in the United Kingdom warmly invites you to join us in celebrating Día de Muertos (Day of the Dead), one of Mexico’s most cherished traditions, honouring the memory of those who have passed away and celebrating the enduring bonds between memory, culture and identity.

On this occasion Dr Juan de Lara will delve into the history and significance of cocos chocolateros and the rituals and traditions surrounding cacao. Drawing on his book, The Art of Drinking Chocolate: Coconut Cups and Other Marvels from the New World, his talk will offer an insight into the fascinating cultural journey of chocolate, from its ancient origins to its enduring place in Mexican history and tradition.
