About this Event
Black Her Stories (BHS) invites you to be wrapped in the warm embrace of Black love. Through the art of collage and human connection, this event offers a welcoming space for community members to create, relate, and share their stories.
Join Michaela Ayers, facilitator/interdisciplinary artist behind Nourish and Black Her Stories, as she guides you through a space that explores belonging through the arts.
WHAT TO EXPECT:
Collage Open Studio - A guided, hands-on creative experience stocked with good vibes, magazines, images, and other creative materials.
Memory Booth - A space for participants to share personal reflections on love, nourishment, and care through guided prompts. Selected recordings will be archived (with participants’ consent) as part of the Black Her Stories podcast.
ACCESSIBILITY
This ticketed event is offered at a sliding space and is an inclusive space for individuals of all backgrounds and gender expressions.
- Not wheelchair accessible; there are approximately 16 steps in the house.
- Masks are preferred and strongly encouraged indoors.
- 2 Scholarship seats are available for individuals
- 2 Caregiver seats are available to parents/caregivers
ABOUT OUR HOSTS
Sited in a fifth-generation, Black-owned home, Wa Na Wari is an immersive community art project that reclaims Black cultural space and makes a statement about the importance of Black land ownership in gentrified communities.
Our mission is to create space for Black ownership, possibility, and belonging through art, historic preservation, and connection. Referred to as a "container for Black joy,” Wa Na Wari incubates and amplifies Black art and belonging while providing a safe space for organizing and movement building.
