OVERVIEW
In 2023 we will hold a limited number of group flower arranging workshops in our London studio.
Over two days of intensive instruction, these workshops cover the core skills required to create breath-taking bouquets and naturalistic, foam-free arrangements. Practical sessions begin with a teacher demonstration, followed by friendly and constructive feedback for each individual student and their work. We will discuss naturalistic design, seasonality and colour theory, as well as answering questions in relaxed open group discussions on a variety of topics from event work to growing and photographing flowers. You will have the opportunity to design with incredible materials cut fresh from our Hampshire garden and experience the beauty and variety this brings with each season through an extraordinary range of organic forms, textures and colours.
Some of the key skills our workshops cover:
TECHNIQUE
composing loose bouquets using a ‘hand-vase’ technique | going foam free - using kenzan or ‘flower frog’ mechanics to create low centrepiece designs and chicken wire for structure in large scale arrangements | creating the foundation of arrangements with forked branches
DESIGN
the theory of naturalistic floral design | understanding proportion and balance in asymmetry | creating loose, natural shapes | choosing ingredients | grouping sculptural focal flowers | adding gestural flowers for drama and hits of accent colour | understanding colour theory and blending nuanced palettes | layering texture
STYLE
choosing and sourcing vessels | working with props and decorative elements | backdrops and lighting for photography | editing and critiquing finished designs | finding and honing your individual style

SCHEDULE
DAY ONE
Garden-Inspired Bouquet | Demo & Practical
Using a ‘hand vase’ technique, we will teach you how to compose a loose, organic bouquet of stems that looks as though it has been gathered from the garden moments before.
Table Vase Arrangement | Demo & Practical
An introduction to using a metal pinholders, choosing vases for table placement and the foundations of building arrangements using layers of different flower ‘groups’.
DAY TWO
Taller Vessels | Demo & Practical
Building on yesterday’s lessons on foam-free techniques we will move onto to designing in larger vessels and experimenting with height and proportion.
Free-Style Design | Practical
Our studio is a treasure trove of vases, plinths and photography backdrops! For your final session you will have the opportunity to freely apply the techniques you have learnt in a free-style session - choosing a vase or bouquet shape to experiment with, selecting your materials and styling and photographing your finished arrangement with our help.
