The Art Nude: Houston Masterclass

I’m back in Houston, bringing the next installment of a workshop series that has become one of the most defining parts of my teaching: a focused, in-studio experience centered on the art nude.

This isn’t a portfolio day. It’s a working study of light, form, tone, and trust. A space where we dive into the most distilled elements of portraiture and shape them with precision.

We’ll spend our time sculpting light with intention (not just placing modifiers, but creating atmosphere). Mood, contour, dimension, every lighting choice we make will serve a visual and emotional purpose. Whether the setup is soft and minimalist or bold and high contrast, the goal is clarity of voice in every frame.

Beyond the technical, we’ll explore the subtleties of gesture and presence. How posture speaks. How to direct with calm confidence. How to create a space where your subject is not just photographed but understood. This isn’t about provocation, it’s about composition, restraint, and the strength of simplicity.

Art nude work has long held a place in visual art history, but that doesn’t make it easy. It demands awareness, intent, and a deep respect for the subject. This workshop is for photographers who want to grow, who want to refine their use of light, sharpen their creative eye, and understand the quiet power of thoughtful image-making.

Info: Light is integral to how a mood is conveyed in a portrait, and how you complement or contrast it is something Nino loves to explore. He will review several lighting setups, and crucially, will explain *why* he lights the way he does, covering the philosophy and vision behind using light in intimate portraiture. Mixing and matching strobes with ambient, and the willingness to improvise with excitement, not disappointment.
