Hanna Tarum is the Portage Route Chapter's monthly speaker and will provide a gripping glimpse into the Spanish Crown via American General James Wilkinson, otherwise known as the infamous Spy #13. President Theodore Roosevelt once declared of Wilkinson, “in all our history, there is no more despicable character.”
Participants will learn of the geopolitical landscape that was a backdrop during the Louisiana Purchase and the subsequent efforts of the Spanish government to sabotage the Corps of Discovery by capturing Meriwether Lewis while the expedition was underway.
This free program is a part of the Ida Johnson Lecture Series and is sponsored by the Portage Route Chapter of the Lewis and Clark Trail Alliance. Doors open at 6:30 pm, with the program starting at 7 pm.
