The Application of Group EMDR in Relational Therapy

The presentation will begin with a quick explanation of trauma and how unprocessed traumatic memories result in trauma-related triggers. Explanation on how this impacts relationships. Quick explanation on the Adaptive Information Processing Model of EMDR and how EMDR helps decrease distressful symptoms and increases positive interactions within relationships. There will be a quick demonstration of the group EMDR protocol that can be used with families and marriages in which attendees can participate and experience the protocol.

Learning Objectives:

1. Explain how unprocessed traumatic experiences become stored in the brain, contributing to present-day emotional and behavioral triggers.

2. Identify the impact of trauma-related triggers on individual functioning and family relationships, including common patterns that emerge within family systems.

3. Describe the Adaptive Information Processing (AIP) model and explain how it informs EMDR therapy's approach to resolving trauma and reducing maladaptive triggers.

4. Explain how EMDR therapy facilitates adaptive processing to decrease symptom distress and strengthen healthier interactions within the family system.

5. Experience the phases and mechanisms of an EMDR processing session through a live demonstration (Optional).
