About this Event

Have you always wanted to join a book club but don’t have time to read the books?

Or do you need inspiration for your reading list?

Or are you dying to talk about your latest read with fellow book folk?

Come on down to the Anti-Book Club!

At the Anti-Book Club, there is no designated book of the month. Instead, everyone is invited to bring a book they recently finished - regardless of whether they liked, loved, or loathed it - and tell the rest of us what this book does (or doesn’t do) for you.

We are open to all kinds of books - audio, electronic, old school. In fact, it doesn’t even have to be a book, as long as it is book-adjacent. And you don’t have to bring the physical thing, just be willing to share something about it.

The event will be facilitated by John Evans, long-time friend of SPACE4 and the cooperative movement, and Nida Sajid, resident librarian at creative collective Studio61, who will guide us through an evening of fun discussions.

We will kick-off with an introduction by John and Nida, delving into their motivations for setting up the Anti-Book Club and what they hope to realise through it. We will then split up into smaller groups to chat about the books people have brought with them. Following this, we will reconvene as a room to share our insights and identify common themes across our audience-chosen ‘book nook’.

There will be a selection of drinks and snacks available on the night.

The organisers

John Evans is a software developer and imagineer residing in cyberspace. He is the project lead of spacetu.be, a group communication tool.

Nida Sajid is a bibliophile living in London. She teaches all things culture and design at the University of Arts London and has previously worked for Libreria, a curated bookstore in Spitalfields designed for maximising serendipity.

Studio61 is a co-operative made of people who are friends, neighbours and colleagues into all sorts of things - art, music, design, climate action, community energy, urban greening, technology, community organising…and more.
